Urgent In person Appointments

Urgent appointments at Tamar Health are designed for patients who feel acutely unwell and need to be assessed promptly, but whose condition is not immediately life threatening. These appointments provide timely clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, onward referral may be appropriate.

What is an urgent appointment?

An urgent appointment is suitable when symptoms have developed quickly, are worsening, or are causing significant concern, and you feel unable to wait for a routine appointment.

These consultations focus on rapid assessment, early treatment, and clear safety netting.


Conditions commonly seen in urgent appointments

• Sore throat, tonsillitis, or suspected throat infection
• Urinary tract infections and urinary symptoms
• Fever, flu like illness, or feeling generally unwell
• Skin rashes, suspected infections, or allergic type reactions
• Cellulitis, skin infections, or infected wounds
• Chest infections, cough, or shortness of breath that is not severe
• Ear pain, sinus infections, or eye infections
• Abdominal pain that is mild to moderate and stable
• Headache or migraine

Booking an urgent appointment

Urgent appointments are limited and offered subject to availability. Same day appointments may be available. If your symptoms worsen rapidly or you become concerned at any point, do not wait for an appointment and seek emergency care immediately.


Emergency Care

Urgent appointments are not appropriate for emergencies or serious injuries.

Please attend A&E or call 999 immediately for:

• Chest pain suggestive of a heart attack
• Sudden weakness, facial droop, or speech difficulties
• Severe shortness of breath
• Loss of consciousness or seizures
• Major trauma or suspected broken bones
• Severe bleeding or deep wounds
• Signs of sepsis or rapidly deteriorating illness
