Private Primary Care Services in Plymouth & the South West
Tamar Health is a CQC-registered private primary care clinic based in Plymouth, providing adult GP services, urgent medical appointments, diagnostics, and health screening across Plymouth and the wider South West. Our clinicians are experienced, UK-registered, and committed to providing safe, professional care without unnecessary delays.
Why Tamar Health was created
Tamar Health was built in direct response to what we see every day: patients struggling to access timely appointments and clinicians increasingly concerned about the impact of those delays on patient safety and outcomes.
We understand how difficult it can be to need medical attention and face a wait of days or weeks for an appointment. Our service was created to offer a practical, professional alternative — not to criticise the NHS, but to support patients who cannot wait and need to be seen promptly.
Our approach is straightforward. We provide time, clinical expertise, and honest communication in a regulated environment. We do not overpromise, and we are clear about what can and cannot be safely managed in a private primary care setting.
Supporting the NHS, not replacing it
The NHS is a service we value deeply. Many of our clinicians have spent the majority of their careers working within it. We know firsthand the pressures it faces and the dedication of the people who work in it.
Tamar Health exists to bridge the gap for patients who need timely access to assessment and treatment. We are an additional option, not a replacement for NHS care.
What we stand for
Timely access
Urgent and same-week appointments available. No long waits for care that cannot be deferred.
Honest clinical advice
We give clear, realistic guidance. We tell you what we can help with and when you need a different level of care.
Patient safety first
Strong clinical governance, clear safety netting, and referral pathways are built into everything we do.
Transparent pricing
Every fee is shown upfront. No hidden costs, no surprise bills, no administration charges on top.
Shared decision making
We listen, explain, and support patients in making informed decisions about their own health.
Continuity of care
We work alongside your NHS GP, not in isolation. Summaries, referrals, and clear communication at every step.
Who we are
Tamar Health was founded by clinicians who live and work in Plymouth and have seen first-hand the impact that delayed access to care has on patients across this part of the South West.

Tim Needham
Having worked across emergency and primary care for many years, I wanted to create a service that gives patients time, clarity, and confidence in their care. Tamar Health exists because people deserve better access to safe, professional healthcare when they need it.

Why our services are private
We would provide this service free of charge if we could. Delivering safe, high-quality healthcare carries unavoidable costs: clinical premises, medical equipment, professional indemnity insurance, staff training, digital systems, and governance requirements all have to be funded.
By operating as a private service we are able to offer longer appointments, faster access, and genuine continuity of care, while maintaining the clinical and safety standards that patients deserve. We keep our fees as transparent and affordable as possible, and every price is shown upfront with no hidden extras.
