Both are all-inclusive, both are taken at our Estover clinic, and both need to be booked before 10am for an accurate result.
Testosterone Check
A focused panel for anyone wanting a first look at their Testosterone level, or a routine check with no other concerns.
- Testosterone
- Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG)
- Free Androgen Index (FAI)
- Free Testosterone (calculated)
- Albumin
Testosterone Therapy Monitoring
The Testosterone Check plus a Full Blood Count, so your Haematocrit is checked alongside your level. This is the one to book if you are already on testosterone therapy.
- Everything in the Testosterone Check
- Full Blood Count, including Haemoglobin and Haematocrit
Why Haematocrit is the one that matters
Injected Testosterone raises your red cell count. A high Haematocrit thickens the blood and is the main safety risk of testosterone therapy, not something a Testosterone reading on its own will show you. If you are taking testosterone on an ongoing basis, Testosterone Therapy Monitoring is the option we would recommend, so that gets checked every time alongside your level.
What Each Test Measures
Both prices are all-inclusive, the appointment fee is already built in, and there is nothing added at checkout.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which one should I book?
If you are already taking testosterone, whether prescribed or otherwise, book Testosterone Therapy Monitoring. Haematocrit is the marker that keeps you safe on treatment, and it is not part of the basic Testosterone Check. If you have never had your Testosterone checked and are not currently taking it, the Testosterone Check is the right starting point.
Do I need to fast?
No, fasting is not required for either test. You can eat and drink normally beforehand. The one thing that matters is timing: your appointment needs to be before 10am.
Why does it have to be before 10am?
Testosterone levels peak in the morning and fall through the day. A test taken in the afternoon can look artificially low even when your true level is normal, so morning testing is the only way to get a result worth acting on.
Is calculated Free Testosterone accurate enough?
For routine monitoring, yes, and it is what most guidelines recommend. In a small number of cases, usually where SHBG is unusually high or low, a directly measured Free Testosterone gives a clearer answer. If your results suggest this would help, your clinician will explain why and arrange it.
Can I have a wider hormone panel instead?
Yes. Our Hormone Blood Test covers Testosterone alongside Oestradiol, FSH, LH, Progesterone, SHBG and Prolactin, which is useful if you want the fuller picture rather than a testosterone-focused check. It does not include a Full Blood Count, so if you are on testosterone therapy specifically, mention this when booking and we can advise on adding one.
Will you tell my own doctor?
Only if you ask us to. Your results are yours. We are happy to write a short summary letter for your prescriber or your own doctor whenever you want one.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book either test directly. If you are already under a clinic or a prescriber elsewhere for testosterone therapy, we are happy to work alongside them and send a copy of your results.
