Diabetes Check
What does this test check?
This test assesses how the body is processing glucose and helps identify diabetes or pre-diabetes. It reflects average blood sugar levels over time rather than a single reading.
Why would I want this test?
A patient may choose this test if they have symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight changes, fatigue, or recurrent infections. It is also recommended for people with a family history of diabetes, those who are overweight, have high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, or as part of a routine health screen, to identify early metabolic risk.
What Is being measured?
HbA1c, which reflects average blood glucose levels over the previous three months
Diabetes is a severe and long-term condition where the body is unable to regulate blood sugar levels effectively, leading to persistently raised glucose over time. You may consider an investigation if you notice symptoms such as increased thirst, passing urine more frequently, unexplained weight loss or gain, ongoing fatigue, blurred vision, or recurrent infections such as skin or urine infections. It’s important to remember that some people have no clear symptoms, so testing is also important for those with a family history of diabetes, raised blood pressure or cholesterol, or as part of a routine health check to identify early changes before complications develop.
This test costs £39 for a detailed Diabetes status.
But if you only want HbA1C then this can be done with part of a screening bundle, please ask for details.
