Digestive health tests · Plymouth
Answers for bloating, pain and gut symptoms.
Tests for coeliac disease, H. pylori and the pancreas, or one wide nutritional and digestive panel. No GP referral needed.
Why test
Common, treatable and often missed.
Bloating, tummy pain and changes in bowel habit can come from coeliac disease, H. pylori infection or poor absorption. These are treatable once found, but often go undiagnosed for years.
Coeliac disease is a good example. Symptoms can be mild or put down to IBS, so many people do not know they have it.

Eating gluten matters
For a reliable coeliac result you must be eating gluten normally in the weeks before the test. If you have already cut it out, the result can be falsely negative.
Tell us when you book if you are gluten-free.
Your results
What your results mean.
A raised coeliac antibody suggests coeliac disease. It is usually confirmed with a biopsy, arranged through your GP. A positive H. pylori result means an active infection that can be treated.
If everything is normal but you still have symptoms, that is useful too. It makes some conditions less likely and helps point to the next step.
Blood tests give information. They do not diagnose a condition on their own. We explain your results in the context of your symptoms, medicines and history.

Questions people ask
The things people most often ask before booking.
Before your test
Do I need to fast?
Not for the coeliac, H. pylori or pancreas tests. The Nutritional and Digestive Health panel includes Insulin and Cholesterol, so please do not eat for 10 hours before it. Water is fine.
I take acid-reducing medicine. Does it matter?
Medicines such as omeprazole can hide H. pylori. Tell us when you book and we will advise on timing.
Your results
My coeliac test was negative but I still suspect it. What now?
A negative result is reassuring if you were eating gluten. If you had already cut it out, the result is not reliable. Talk to us about the best next step.
What is the difference between coeliac disease and gluten sensitivity?
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition with positive antibodies and gut damage. Gluten sensitivity causes symptoms without either. This test looks for coeliac disease.
What happens if H. pylori is positive?
It is treated with a short course of antibiotics and acid-reducing medicine. A follow-up test can confirm it has cleared.
