Haematology and B12 tests · Plymouth
B12, Folate and anaemia tests.
From a Full Blood Count to a full pernicious anaemia work-up. Know whether you need B12 injections before you start. No GP referral needed.
Why test
Test before B12 injections.
Haematology covers your blood cells and what your body needs to make them, including Iron, Vitamin B12 and Folate. It is the first place to look for unexplained tiredness or anaemia.
Many people now have B12 injections at salons or clinics without a blood test. A test shows whether you are actually low. If you are, Intrinsic Factor Antibodies show whether it is pernicious anaemia, which needs lifelong treatment, or something that may respond to diet or tablets.

Why test first?
B12 injections given without a test can hide other causes of tiredness or anaemia.
A test tells you whether injections are a short top-up or a lifelong need.

Questions people ask
The things people most often ask before booking.
About the tests
Do I need to fast?
No. You can eat and drink normally.
Should I test before or after starting B12 injections?
Ideally before, so you know your starting level and whether you need them. If you have already started, a test still shows how you have responded.
Can I add these to another blood test?
Yes. Tell us when you book and we will take them in the same appointment.
